Deaf-mute, but busiest - Newindpress.com

BEING deaf-mute is no hurdle for Runi Bisoi (23) of village Katara, 45 km from here, to climb the ladders of success.

She is today the busiest beautician of the town due to her determination and steely resolve.

Such is her dedication that she picked up the nuances of the trade just within a year despite being unlettered.

‘‘Today, Runi is the busiest beautician in Soumya Ladies Beauty Parlour in Acharya Bazaar where many young girls and women prefer her service,’’ said Kaveri Bhattacharya, owner of the beauty parlour.

‘‘When I allowed Runi to work in my beauty parlour two years back, many customers opposed it saying a deaf and dumb girl can’t render good services. But within a year,Runi has become the most popular beautician in the parlour,’’ said Kaveri.

‘‘It was a dream for Runi to earn a living for herself. We also wanted to engage her in a job. At last she managed to fulfill our long-cherished dream,’’ said Sita Bisoi (62), widow mother of Runi. Runi has two brothers.

After untimely death of her father Bhagawan Bisoi two years back one of the village girls Latika Manjari Rout requested Kaveri to teach Runi the art of beatification. ‘‘Runi had been running from pillar to post to get a job but her disability was an impediment.

Thanks to Kaveri she is now earning about Rs 3000 a month,’’ said Latika. ‘‘I taught her the art of beautification like beauty and skin care, facial, bleaching , threading of eyebrow and face, waxing, manicure, pedicure, body massage, hair and skin treatment, colouring of hairs and hair highlighting by gesturing and Runi mastered the art in a short time,’’ said Kaveri.
