A deaf man is recovering after getting stabbed by a group of strangers in Portland late Wednesday night, authorities said.
The man was walking home from a bar with a friend when he got into some sort of disagreement with four other men and a fight broke out near 122nd and Powell, police said. The deaf man was stabbed during the fight, he said, by a man described as being white with a shaved head.
Paramedics rushed the deaf man to the hospital just after 10:30 p.m. he was listed in critical condition at last report. The victim’s name has not been released.
Investigators said they don't believe this was a hate crime.
Police searched around the scene of the attack with K-9 teams late into the night but did not find any sign of the suspects, who reportedly fled on foot after the stabbing.
