Deaf girl walking with friend struck by car in Clark County - Breaking News Updates from Portland and Oregon - The Oregonian - OregonLive.com
A 12-year-old deaf girl was taken by ambulance to a Portland hospital early this afternoon after being struck by a car in a rural Clark County.
Henry Von Dem Fange, Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman, said the incident happened at 1:09 p.m. along Northeast 29th Avenue, about one block north of State Route 502. The area is about six miles west of Battle Ground.
It is not known how extensive injuries are to the girl, whose name was not disclosed. She was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center in Portland.
The woman who was driving the car stayed at the scene.
Von Dem Fange said the girl was with a schoolmate, who also is deaf. They were going to the boy's house but did not see nor hear the approaching car. Witnesses said the woman, whose name was not been disclosed, used her horn for about 200 yards as she approached the children.
The boy was not harmed, Von Dem Fange said.
The Clark County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
