Opportunity for deaf film-makers

Deaf teenagers in Belfast have been given the chance to make a short film, thanks to lottery funding.

First Light, the UK Film Council young person's film-making initiative, has given the group £4,000 to produce a situation comedy with the help of the National Deaf Children's Society.

John Woodward, UK Film Council chief executive Officer said: "First Light is testament to the British film industry's desire to involve young people in the excitement and creativity of film-making.

Pip Eldridge, First Light chief executive officer added: "We are always encouraged to see Northern Ireland's young people take up the exciting challenge of film-making.

"We're also delighted to see a humorous approach towards young people's film-making."

First Light enables five to 18-year-olds across the UK to make short films under the guidance of professional film-makers.
