Deaf DJ Harcor Prepares to Make Some Noise
Following the hit movie It’s All Gone Pete Tong, a real life deaf DJs is about to rock the crowds by feeling the vibrations of the music...
Spencer Collins loves dance music, clubbing and DJing as much as any other aspiring DJ, with only one particular difference – he’s been deaf since birth.
But this hasn’t stopped him being on the verge of his first public gig under the name DJ Harcor. In fact, it may well have helped him get there.
“I’ve always enjoyed the rhythm, vibration and beat of music,” says Spencer who played sax, clarinet and drums while at school.
“On visiting clubs, big events such as Reading Festival and private parties, I studied and sometimes assisted DJs at work, with the knowledge that I wanted to pursue being a DJ myself.
“Being deaf has made me strive harder to achieve the things I want to accomplish and enjoy and being a DJ is one of them.”
Spencer decided to enrol for a 13-week training at The DJ Academy, working with renowned DJ tutors Antix and Trixta, who developed his sensory skills and technical ability.
“By developing all my senses, I have the ability to ‘feel' sound in a very 'visual' way, through vibration and beat,” says Spencer.
“It’s been great to share my interest in music with both teaching staff and fellow colleagues, and the best experience has been that I’ve been accepted, which has given me confidence to believe I can achieve the same successes as others.”
Next Monday, 18th June, DJ Harcor plays his debut solo set at Revolutions vodka bar in Reading at 9pm. The event is sure to draw plenty of interest, but the most important factor on the night will ultimately be the enjoyment of the crowd on the dancefloor.
Now he’s come this far, the ultimate goal is to take the Harcor sound – a mix of quality prog and trance – to the world’s major stages, ideally dream gigs like Glastonbury and Ibiza.
With such determination, there could be a real life Frankie Wilde-style rise to the top for this new DJ, (hopefully minus the drugs excesses!) so keep on the lookout for DJ Harcor, feeling the vibes at a club near you soon...
