Deaf Culture Interview

Hi everyone. I am a hearing student in the ASL certificate program at the University of Pittsburgh. I am currently taking a Deaf Culture class and have to do several interviews for a portfolio I am completing. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to be interviewed via e-mail. I am looking for a Deaf person who grew up using speech, but now uses ASL and is part of the Deaf community and Deaf culture. I just have a couple of questions about your experiences with speech, learning ASL, and entering into the Deaf community. Thanks!

Every fall, we get an influx of students attempting to do their assignments through this forum. Doesn't really do much to give them the experience of one on one contact with a Deaf individual. As a prof, I wouldn't accept an interview done online. It seems to be taking the easy way out, and cheating the learning process.

Yeah and then after the reports are done--we never see them again.
 
And, also, isn't the OP's project pretty narrow in scope? Seems to me like it would eliminate a lot of the population.....
 
Maybe I'm too relaxed, but good grief. Maybe they're a bit intimidated by Deaf people for some reason. And after the ruler-on-the-back-of-the-hand treatment he/she just got, I wouldn't blame them. It's not my place to be anyone's conscience.
