Trinidad and Tobago's Newsday : newsday.co.tt :

A HEARING IMPAIRED couple and a physically challenged woman were among the persons severely affected by strong winds and rain in Penal and Siparia yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday when Newsday visited the Lachoos Road, Penal home of Roy Boodoo, 45, his wife Lynette Boodoo, 46, and their son Andre, 25 they were busy mopping up.

A portion of the roof over the living room was blown off and the heavy rains drenched their furniture and electrical appliances.

“We are only waiting now on the firemen to come and put on the tarpaulin,” Andre explained.

Using sign language to communicate through Andre, his parents, who have been married for the past 29 years, said they never experienced anything like yesterday’s stormy weather.

“We were very frightened,”they said.

Also affected was Harry Gosine, 82, of Ghamoo Trace, Penal. The portion of the roof over his bedroom was blown off.

Rampersad Ramlogan, 60, his wife Rookmin, 55, and their physically challenged daughter Joanne Ramoutar, 32, along with nine relatives also lost their roof to the high winds.

Savistra Badall, disaster co-ordinator of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation, yesterday said the families were supplied with tarpaulins to cover the exposed areas of their homes.
