AN EVENT teaching life skills to deaf children has taken place at the University of Hertfordshire.

The Crucial Crew events are held across the county to teach youngsters, aged between eight and 14, about stranger danger, fire safety, road safety and basic first aid.

The Herts-based Phoenix Group supports families of deaf children. Parent Jane Savage said: "This workshop was a great example of what can be done to help deaf children grow up to be independent and confident people."
