BBC News - Deaf cat shot with pellet gun in Wolverhampton

A 14-year-old deaf cat has been shot with a pellet gun in Wolverhampton.

JimJim returned home to Belmont Road in Penn looking "subdued" and covered in blood at about 1100 BST on Wednesday, said her owner Kate Hartland-Westwood, 57.

JimJim underwent surgery on Wednesday afternoon after an X-ray showed a pellet lodged in her small intestine.

West Midlands Police believe JimJim was shot near her home as she was unable to walk very far prior to the incident.

'Mindless cruelty'
Ms Hartland-Westwood said she wanted other cat owners to be aware of the crime.

"I cannot understand this level of mindless cruelty," she added.

Pc Phil Upton said: "We are working hard to try and establish who is responsible for JimJim's injury."

JimJim is expected to make a good recovery and due home on Saturday.

That's awful. I hope they keep her inside after. The person responsible might to it again.

Terrible thing to do. I also hope they keep the cat inside after this. I ranted on that in other topic, on cat owners who let their cats roam all over the neighborhood. Indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats; that is just a plain and simple fact, not even counting sickos who would shoot a cat with a pellet gun.

Poor kitty. She's lucky she will be home again and on the road to recovery.

JimJim has been deaf from birth. She does not 'roam all over the neighbourhood', but she does like to go ouside into an enclosed garden to play and to sit in the sun.
It is very difficult to keep a cat inside when they actually want to go outside.
She is now 14 years old: in all that time she has never been injured before, and we have never received any complaints about her.

So poor JimJim was shot in your own backyard??

How is she doing now? I hope she's recovering ok.
