solomonstarnews.com - Deaf and mute students host Mothers Day

PARENTS and guidance of students attending the Deaf and Mute San Isidro Care Centre in Aruligo yesterday joined an emotional and joyous celebration with their kids.

The celebration brought tears to mothers who were speechless to see what their kids have prepared for them as someone special in their lives.

Brother George, the director of the centre, said the students may not hear or talk but they are clever.

“These children came from all denominations in Solomon Islands and have been very good to each other.

“I believe these students give a positive message to people in the Solomon Islands,” he said.

Br George said these deaf and mute kids are good role model to leaders of this nation.

“You were the best so don’t be ashamed to show yourselves to the public.

“To me you are important and special in every way,” Br George commented.

He acknowledged the parents and guidance that attended and thanked them for raising and looking after the deaf and mute children.

Br George said the centre will continue to enroll more deaf and mute students in the coming years.

He said the centre welcomes parents or guardians who want to enroll their kids in the school.

The Mothers Day celebration at the Deaf and Mute Care Centre was hosted six days after the actual date to enable mothers to attend and celebrate with them.

As part of the programme, the deaf and mute students write poems and presented flowers and gifts to their mothers as a token of appreciation for all the things they’ve done for them.

The day ended with a lunch and the cutting of the Mothers Day cake followed by interesting entertainment from the students.

Currently there were 41 students - 30 boys and 11 girls - studying at the Care Centre.
