Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Spelling Bee
Deaf and hard of hearing children competed in a spelling bee today, after training for months.
The students competed in a regional deaf and hard of hearing spelling bee at greenwood high school.
A leader signed each word for students..who wrote their best guess on dry erase boards.
Teacher Miranda Stewart says the spelling bee has become an event the children look forward to every year.
"Many students are isolated, there's just a few deaf or hard of hearing students in their district so this gives them the opportunity where they can come to place where they can meet other kids who are just like them and to see deaf adult role models who can be mentors to them," says teacher Miranda Stewart.
Every child was awarded a medal and a certificate for their hard work.
