The National Secretariat of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) was yesterday crammed by scores of deaf and dumb victims who had as their sole objective to pledge their unflinching support and loyalty to the SLPP.
The ‘quests’ were received by the Chairman of the SLPP, Alhaji UNS Jah and the Chief Trustee Alhaji B.M. Koroma and other top members of the party.
Speaking about the purpose of the visit, the President of the Sierra Leone National Association of the Deaf, Madam Ramatu Sesay, she acknowledged the warm reception accorded to them by Chairman UNS Jah, noting that it is a clear indication that the party takes sees them serious.
She noted that they embraced the party in the events leading to the 1996 general and parliamentary elections, adding that since then they have remained steadfast in their support, despite a number of frustrating moments.
Highlighting some of the frustrating moments, she stressed that since they decided to whole heatedly join the party, little or no attention has been given to them.
This she noted, was the reason why most of them wanted to quit the party, but had have a second thought with the intervention of Madam Josephine Mac- Thompson, a staunch SLPP stalwart.
She called on the party to step in and help ameliorate their sufferings.
Also speaking was the Treasurer of the Association, Mr. Alhaji Mohamed Rahman, who in his statement informed the Chairman of a pending friendly match between them and their Guinean counterparts.
He explained that the SLP Minister of Youth and Sport, Mr. Dennis Bright has opted to offer them the National Stadium pitch free of charge and also provide accommodation for the host team at the Stadium Hostel.
He called on the party to help provide the extra funds needed to facilitate the proposed friendly match.
They ended up by pledging their total support and loyalty to the party.
Responding, Alhaji UNS Jah expressed happiness that people of their kind could be sensible enough to remain hooked to the party which he said is the only way forward.
He pleaded on behalf of the past management of the party for the seeming neglect meted on them, pointing out that it is in the agenda of the present administration to correct the wrongs of the past.
He described the SLPP as a "combra party," noting that a good mother always gives her child the best breast feeding.
He encouraged them to exercise patience, assuring that their concerns will be conveyed to the highest authorities in the party.
