Deaf Actress Marlee Matlin Eliminated From DWTS | April 26, 2008 | AHN

After six weeks of grueling practices and hard work, actress Marlee Matlin has been eliminated on ABC's reality hit contest "Dancing With The Stars."

The Academy Award-winning deaf actress' mambo performance with dancing partner Fabian Sanchez has failed to impress the judges Monday, scoring just 21 out of 30.

Being auditory challenged didn't stop this "Children of a Lesser God" star to join the celebrity dancing contest.

She says via her interpreter Jack Jason, "I had a great time. Thank you to all the fans, to everyone!"

Matlin, 42, certainly had been an inspiration in the show. Not being able to hear the music didn't stop her from dancing to the beat like a professional.

She tells OK! magazine, "I just hope that after DWTS that people know there's a lighter, funnier side of me and there's certainly no need to think 'well, can Marlee do this?' I think I've proven I can do pretty much anything. You've just got to be willing to listen."

The actress' exit leaves six contestants battling it out for the next ultimate ballroom dancing champ. Actor Christian de la Fuente, Shannon Elizabeth, R&B singer Mario, Broadway actress Marissa Jaret Winokur, and champion figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi will perform two dances each next week.
