A lot of negative news have been reported lately against teachers, and I am deeply disturbed by this. It seems like our focus and our eyes are suddenly on THOSE TEACHERS, GRRR, THOSE %&@%!
Get real.
Any whift of "abnormality" gets our attention, and guess who gets our attention? Why, our beloved media of course. Shucks, folks, they can be relied upon, can't they, and , nudge nudge, anyone who disagrees is suspect.
Phooey.
What in the world are we coming to when we can suspend a teacher for encouraging a student to think for him/herself?
I know a lot of you have reservations about our education system, but cripes, it is a LOT worse than you may imagine.
For just one example, I ran across an article written by a teacher who was suspended for having the following exchange with a student...
I will quote the whole article just to grab your attention, since I know from personal experience that people do NOT click on links, haha...
"I work as a public high school teacher in Wisconsin. During a conversation a few weeks ago the subject of the Nick Berg video came up. One student started off by saying that he was glad Bush was there (in Iraq) and that he is eliminating the enemy. I chimed in by saying that a majority of those people are not the enemy, just normal people like you and I trying to survive.
Then he mentioned that the terrorists in the Nick Berg video should all die as well. I told him that the video may be fake. This is where things went in a downward spiral. His response was, "How could it be fake, they videotaped it." I responded with all the anomolies listed on websites that I could muster at the moment. His response was an assuring look of confusion and doubt followed by him fervently expelling, "But we have specialists that find out if stuff like this is fake!"
I told him, "Look, if you want to believe everything that is spoon fed to you, do so, but you'll never know the world if you confine yourself to a single point of view."
I am suspended until the next academic year when the student will have already graduated."

Now, unless you are hopelessly poor in memory, remember when we started attacking Iraq, remember when teachers were fired or suspended for speaking out against the war?
You be the judge.
Just THINK.

I am not surprised. I already knew about this a long time ago. I read alot from the newspapers and books (non-fiction). The modern days are gettin' worse than the old time.
