A DEAF pensioner has won more than £200,000 at the bingo. The 74-year-old from Kirkintilloch scooped the national prize during a night out with her husband in Glasgow.

Initially she thought she'd won the £200 club prize by calling house on the numbers which are displayed on a video screen but she later realised she'd landed the £200,000 jackpot.

The grandmother, who has been deaf since the age of 21, and her husband are regulars at the Gala club in Possilpark and they are now going on a cruise to celebrate their windfall.

The couple have two sons and four grandchildren, who are also likely to be treated.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said her previous best win was £500.

She added: "This hasn't sunk in yet. I'm still in shock and I never slept at all."
Her husband, 75, admitted: "I had a few beverages so I managed to sleep. We were due a win but I never dreamed it would be to that extent."

The Glasgow venue was one of 500 across the UK taking part in the national draw on Sunday.

And there were anxious moments for the winner as she waited to find out just how much she had won.

Georgina Palmer from the National Bingo Game said: "The tension really builds up when someone has a win in the national game.

"This lady knew she had won the local prize but there's an agonising 20-minute wait before the national result comes through."
