Gulf Daily News
AN arrest warrant was issued for a Syrian couple yesterday - three months after they hit a Bahraini teenager so hard that he is now deaf in one ear.
The man slapped the 14-year-old - who was already wearing a hearing aid - on the side of his head after the woman hit him in the back with a broomstick, said a Public Prosecution spokesman.
He was assaulted after arguing with the couple's children, who he was playing with in their garden.
The youngster was already partially deaf in his left ear and had undergone several operations to improve the hearing on that side, said the spokesman.
"He previously had undergone several surgeries, after which he was given a hearing aid," he added.
The arrest warrant was issued for the couple yesterday after a police medical examiner found that a blow to the head could have caused his hearing loss.
The incident happened in August.
"After a small argument broke out between the children, the wife came out of the house to see what was going on," said the spokesman.
"The mother immediately started yelling at the 14-year-old and then hit him with a broomstick on his back.
"The father also started yelling at the victim after hearing all the commotion outside his house.
"He then slapped him on his left ear where the youngster was wearing a hearing aid."
The couple are expected to be charged with assault and verbal abuse.
