Concert to aid deaf children in Ethiopia | News-Leader.com | Springfield News-Leader
Gigs at the Gillioz will present Alea and Alexa Kilgore in concert, "Uplifting Humanity Thru Harmony," at 7 p.m. June 17 at the Gillioz Theatre, 325 Park Central East. Other artists contributing to the event include Ibiyinka Alau, Alexander Washington, Sesha Shannon and Patrick Mureithi.
The event will benefit Ethopian Child, an organization that aids deaf children in Ethiopia. Tickets are $10 each.
The performance was the brainchild of Rebecca and Vernon Blitch, who adopted two deaf children last year from Ethiopia. Upon returning to the United States, Rebecca and her father, Charles Brown, committed themselves to assisting deaf schools in Ethiopia.
Alea and Alexa Kilgore are folk-rock artists and have performed at numerous venues throughout Springfield. In addition to performing together, the sisters have been involved in musicals at the Springfield Little Theatre.
Also performing will be Alexander Washington. He will do an acoustic set of funk, blues and reggae music. Alexander has released five CDs and was nominated as the best Reggae Performer Chicago 2002.
