NEW YORK: A woman from Columbus is the only deaf handler at this year's Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York.
Pam Estes has already picked up a ribbon with Shaughnessee, a Glen of Imaal terrier that she works with as a therapy dog at the Ohio School for the Deaf.
Estes visited the show last year to get a feel for the surroundings. Her interpreter says she was very nervous and excited to actually be entering the ring this time.
The show began with a tribute to the canine victims of Hurricane Katrina and those who helped them. Best in Show will be chosen late tonight.
