College comedy shows signing for deaf

Moorpark College's Performing Arts Department announces that two performances of "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" by Neil Simon will offer American Sign Language interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Moorpark College students Sydnee Gerstel and Cathy Deobler will provide ASL interpretation at 2 p.m. Sun., Feb. 17 and 8 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 21. For special seating arrangements for those that will benefit from this service, call the box office at (805) 378-1485.

Other performances of the show are 8 p.m. Feb. 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23; 2 p.m. Sun., Feb. 17 and 24; and 10 a.m. Wed., Feb. 20 in the Main Stage of the campus Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Road.

"Laughter on the 23rd Floor" pays homage to the author's early days in show biz when Simon worked as a junior jokesmith for Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows."

As the writers in the play try to top each other with gags while competing for the attention of head madman Max Prince, Max must contend with NBC brass who fear that his humor is too sophisticated for middle America.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $9 for seniors and Moorpark College staff, and $8 for students.

For tickets or information, go to Moorpark College theatre.
