THE winner of Miss Deaf and her runners-up will have the privilege to fly in a helicopter courtesy of Lincoln, a Siteki businessman.
The winners will be chosen during a contest billed for the School For The Deaf in Siteki tomorrow and will run concurrently with Little Mr/Miss Deaf.
Event organiser Sizwe Ndlela said the helicopter had no specified arena to take the winners to, but was part of the package for the eventual winners.
He stated that Lincoln, who is also treasure for Sports Development, offered to take the three to different places with his helicopter as part of the fun.
Ten contestants have entered for the annual competition and are all pupils at the school. The event will kick-off at 11 a.m and around this time, there will be an exhibition where pupils from the school will be showcasing their wares in the different departments of sewing, art and carpentry.
The showcasing will be followed by Little Mr/Miss Deaf as an interlude session to the big function. During this function, there will be a 'braai' and other children’s activities.
Tickets to the morning function will be E25 including the 'braai' while the main event will start at 5 p.m with E10 as entrance fee, where contestants are expected to display their talent in order to convince the panel of judges of their worth.
“The action will be supported by great music by Siteki-based groups including kwaito kid, Mageez,” said Ndlela, adding that prizes for the winners would be announced after the contest as they were still trying to secure more sponsors.
The guest speaker will be Ali Resting from Real Image, among others. “Just like previous winners, this year’s winner will get the chance to represent this region in the Czech Republic. We are going to try and get sponsors to finance her trip. We were lucky last year as His Majesty King Mswati III financed the winner,” he said.
He added that since they had partnered with South Africa last year, they would again do the same this year in order to stand a better chance at the international contest.
