Leader Call - Chip Pickering visits Magnolia Speech School
Congressman Chip Pickering recently toured and visited Magnolia Speech School in Jackson.
Pickering said he was “impressed with the accomplishments of the students and moved by the dedication of the staff.” He continued, “Nothing could be more important than helping a child learn to communicate. Magnolia Speech School is a model program for quality instruction in helping children with challenges meet their potential.”
Magnolia is the only auditory/oral school for profoundly deaf children in Mississippi and one of only 43 in the nation. Magnolia also teaches children with severe language disorders.
Pickering visited the school to congratulate staff on achieving a 92 percent rate of mainstreaming to public schools in its deaf education program and an 88 percent rate in its language disorder program.
The school has developed a curriculum that has been replicated nationwide.
