Child Killed In Chase For Stolen Truck - Charlotte News Story - WSOC Charlotte
A child fell out of a stolen pickup truck during a short chase in Fort Lawn and died Monday, according to police.
Police said 7-year-old John Bailey Jr., 17-year-old Antonio Celey Jr., and an 11-year-old were in a stolen pickup truck in Fort Lawn, S.C.
Officers said the three were trying to get away from the truck's owner.
Bailey fell out on Highway 9 and died.
His uncle said he doesn't know why the boy was in the truck, but that he'll miss everything about him.
Marcus Sanders said, "Everything. Everything. You know, him waking me up in the morning."
Officers said the other two people eventually jumped from the truck themselves and ran, leaving the pick-up to roll up against a house on Williams Street.
D.J. Robinson lives there. He called the experience "terrifying."
Police charged 17-year-old Celey with having a stolen vehicle. They said he's deaf, doesn't have a license, and has been in trouble with the law before.
Officers didn't charge the 11-year-old.
They said prosecutors will decide whether to charge him with Bailey's death.
