Redditch News, Redditch Sport, Redditch Leisure - From The Redditch Advertiser
THE National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) is searching for Redditch people to work with deaf and hearing impaired children.
The NDCS wants people with a minimum Level 1 British Sign Language or equivalent and preferably Level 2 to help at events for deaf children and their families.
The charity organises events ranging from information and activity weekends to longer holidays for older children.
Volunteer Sam Harker, from Matchborough West, said: "I volunteer with the NDCS as often as I can and last year I took charge of my first NDCS holiday as project leader.
"I started volunteering with the NDCS nine years ago. After six years of working as a volunteer I took on the position of assistant project leader then last year I took part in my first holiday as project leader where I was responsible for 20 deaf children and eight volunteer staff.
"Volunteering with the NDCS is one of the most rewarding and memorable things I've ever done.

"I'd recommend it to anyone interested in working with deaf or hearing impaired children. I've made some fantastic friends and had some of the most memorable, unforgettable experiences."
Rachel Xerri, NDCS volunteer co-ordinator said: "The events we run give deaf children and young people the chance to socialise and make new friends.
"Learning new skills really helps to build up deaf children's confidence and we urgently need more volunteers to help us with this vital work."
All new volunteers receive a weekend of free training (with travel expenses paid) which covers all aspects of volunteering with the NDCS, a chance to meet and network with other volunteers, develop group work skills and understand behaviour management , child protection and communication skills.
All volunteers will need to provide two references and will be CRB checked.
For more details, call 0121 234 9826 (voice/text) or email volunteer@ndcs.org.uk.
