icWales - Celebration night ends in deaf man brutally attacked

A celebration for workers at Toys R Us ended in tragedy when a deaf man was brutally beaten in an apparently motiveless attack.

The 35-year-old victim has been left in hospital with bleeding to his brain after being stamped unconscious by a gang of six men.

It is believed the married father of two, from Thornhill, Cardiff, who is 80 per cent hearing impaired, may have suffered brain damage.

He was walking home at 3.20am on Sunday after a night out with 25 colleagues to celebrate the city centre toy shop's final trading day before it moves to Cardiff Bay.

He and a 22-year-old colleague were punched and kicked by a 'group of smartly dressed men in their 20s' congregating near a white minibus on Westgate Street, Cardiff.

The younger man, whose house in Riverside, Cardiff, they were walking back to, suffered a broken nose.

Both men have asked not to be named but are calling for their attackers to be brought to justice.

They managed to run up Park Street, near the Echo's offices, where the younger man was attacked.

He said: 'I ran into the middle of Park Street and got punched to the face in the middle of my nose. My eyes were watering.'

The 35-year-old was then punched to the floor.

The younger man added: 'The minibus was alongside him. Someone was stamping on his face. He was unconscious.

'I was just in complete shock. I feel guilty wondering if there was something I could've done.

'They could have killed him.

'There was no reason for it.

'It was a brutal and vicious attack.'
