Had to get a replacement receiver box from dish cable company. Ever since, the captioning of a captioned program often would simply not be visible after commercial breaks. I found out clicking on the remote for anything(like "program info" or bringing up the programming menu) then going back to the programming instantly makes the captioning show up again.

It's like sometimes the commerical breaks 'turn off' the captioning from showing up on the programming. It gets extremely annoying because it sometimes happens upwards of 50% of commercial breaks. As far as I noticed, it does not happen to programming that doesn't have commercial breaks such as movie cable or PBS channel shows- captioning is continuous on those.

This never happened at all before getting this new receiver box.. it just seems it's a direct effect from this box. Has anybody ever encountered or heard of this problem and how to solve it?

Thought I'd try asking here before contacting the cable company which are likely to put me through "it is your fault. okay let's play 1000 questions to see how exactly it is your, your, your fault.... Somehow."

I doubt they will say it's your fault, if anything, they will say "Sorry, that just the way is is". Sound like a defective receiver box to me...

Most tv's will not have caption during commercials.......or even when the network plops those little network ads on it...or any subtitling.
Daughter had a large newtv...and cable...it was terrible captaioning....words all spelled wrong etc and not work lots It worked lot better before they moved. Told in-law it was cable company problem.hookup....he didn't want to call. I had another tv to watch so.
Location or cable hookup.
