Since 1921, the red bricks of Gallaudet Hall provided a safe learning haven for students at the American School for the Deaf. Today, aside from the cafeteria, that iconic structure remains mostly deserted.

Directly in front of Gallaudet Hall, a new vision is taking shape. Once the $20 million new construction is complete, all 175,000 square feet that comprise Gallaudet Hall will forever disappear.

But not everyone is on board with the demolition that is planned in 2014.

As the school nears its 200th anniversary in just five short years, plans for the school's future are taking shape with a new state-of-the-art education building as preservation issues related to Gallaudet Hall continue to linger.
