Hey i'm wondering if you guys get teased in school and if yes how you deal with it. are school is really dumb and i get made fun of for not being able to hear people when they are yelling at me from the other side of the hall

Shouldn't this be in Our Culture? Oh, and I dealt SO much with stupid teens making fun of me, and not letting me be a part of the school....I hated high school, and if I could do it over again, I would attend a school for the deaf!

I'm a long way from being a teen, but HS was brutal. Mean kids will find something to tease you about NO MATTER WHAT. Seriously.

You'll get through this. Focus on the GOOD stuff, ignore the jerks, and enjoy your youth! :)

Awfully hard to do that when high school seems to be your whole entire life......

I was anti social in high school.... some people thought i couldn't talk
I wasn't stuck up i just wasn't a very good converationalist.

I'm not fully deaf only hh so i'd feel weird going to a deaf school i like the setting of public school just not the kids they are always making up really stupid signs and saying that is this the only sign they know *holds up middle finger* and that is the only sign anyone needs to know

*sigh* makes me want to be a teen again...sure miss the good 'ol days

I am hh too! I'm trying to think......are there schools near you that are regional magnet programs for the deaf and hoh? Often you can do a lot better in a school where you aren't the ONLY dhh kid! And trust me...a LOT of dhh mainstreamed kids do well when they are younger, just to not do really well when they are in jr high.
Maybe you should have a snappy comeback like.... "Oh really? You know what my favorite English phrase is? FUCK YOU!"

You should give it a try to join deaf school and maybe you might like it there, maybe feel more happier since deaf students at deaf school that you won't feel ALONE. There's lot of activities for you to participate, events, sports (basketball, volleyball, track, others),etc and make more friends that signs, easier for you to communicate, and so on.

Yeah, not all kids at a Deaf school are fully deaf....there are some hoh kids there too!

yea also i'm not the only deaf and hh kid in my school there is about 12 of us and some i don't even know cause their are some hh kids like me who don't wanna wear a hearing aid or in my case my parents don't believe it. another battle to conquer with my parents. but that's a diffrent story. I guess for the fact i don't think we have any school in our area like that but we do have excelent hearing imapred classes and areas. i guess in our area they don't want anyone going to a special school but at the same time they are having trouble keeping the dumb a** remarks down

Deaf Institutes have dorms that you live there and you will come home like break time such as spring break, christmas, thanksgiving, and so on you'd come home like at least once a month or so. It depends how far you live from "school for the deaf" if its real close that you can be "day student" (not live in dorm). Why don't you call and make an appointment to tour around your STATE (I don't know where you are from) deaf institute school to see if you want to join that school or not. Good Luck.

Also, you won't feel alone like you will have boyfriend who is HOH or Deaf that knows sign language... homecoming, prom, and all that. :)
