STATE GOVERNMENT has set up a Cabinet committee on effective implementation of Madhya Pradesh’s Information Technology policy.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Minister and Principal Secretary (IT) would be member secretary. Other members are ministers for Commerce and Industry, Finance, Urban Administration, IT and Revenue. The committee will decide on proposals to be received from major investors.

State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today endorsed the drug policy of the State and decided to bring to zero per cent VAT on items used by blind and deaf people.

The implementation of the policy will be in line with Tamil Nadu’s drug policy. The policy seeks to ensure purchase of quality material at minimum rates following a transparent procedure and medicines and equipment are made available in minimum possible time.

The software for purchase procedure will be purchased from Tamil Nadu Medical Supply Corporation. Cabinet decided to reduce VAT on equipments used by blind and deaf people from 12.5 per cent to zero per cent. Similarly, rates of taxes have been revised for several items. It was decided to reduce VAT on sugarcane, handmade soap, paper, tooth powder from 12.5 per cent to zero.

Agarbatti and dhoop too will now have zero per cent VAT. The rate of VAT on power energy generation/ distribution plant, machinery equipment parts has been revised from 12.5 per cent to four per cent.
