A Berry College official is among the appointees named to serve on the Georgia Commission on Hearing Impaired and Deaf Persons.

Gov. Sonny Perdue announced Wednesday that J. Comer Yates, a member of the Berry College board of visitors, will fill one of the seven seats on the commission created by an act of the General Assembly last year.

Yates, 55, is executive director of the Atlanta Speech School. He also serves on the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA board of directors and as president of Camp Twin Lakes. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from Emory University.

The commission, which must include at least two deaf people, is charged with being the state’s principle advocate on behalf of hearing-impaired people.
