After a couple stupid episodes over my life, I finally gave in and got some hearing aids. My loss is moderate, my aids expensive and if I could only adjust them myself, instead of by someone with a book degree and perfect hearing, I believe I'd be happier with them. They squeal, they deaden (lose volume) and are not worth a nickel in many situations. But, they are "a lot better than what used to be available" so I am told. OK, maybe an ear horn, but an open hand behind the ear still sounds better than these tunnel effect $4,200.oo gems. Audiology Group, talk about a money making opportunity for pushing substandard price fixed junk that needs to be replaced one at a time in the first year alone. Am I bitter, no, not really. They do assist me well in most environments and if this is what you get for four grand, I'd hate to have spent less (I think).
These are SX70's, dual mics, 4 EQ settings and they talk to you ("battery"), 1, 2 , 3, 4. When I had them adjusted with the assistance of the factory rep, the 4th program was set for music. She was spot on and that works really well. The other girl just did not listen and wanted to say sea shells, baseball, do I sound OK? No, the room acoustics were all wrong and that's why I want to adjust them myself, not by a book or a course in how to, but by what I choose for me, in my environment.
I have heard (at least I can hear) that there are new low priced models coming out that can be adjusted by a blue tooth or android phone, but they are not quite here yet. Does anyone have any information on those and/or advise on settings for the Audiology Group SX70's...?

What are Audiology Group SX70?

Is it some odd off brand?

Never heard of it.

Buy quality like Phonak, Oticon, Siemens and you will probably be a lot happier.

But some late deafened people with small loss just don't care for hearing aids.

If you later become profoundly deaf, you won't have as many criticisms as you will be pleased with what you can manage to hear and you won't be able to hear with a cupped hand behind your ear.

I know I sounded rather bitter about these, and it's like complaining about the weather. If you don't like it, move somewhere else or stop whining.
I hope to never be totally deaf and it seems these conditions can be hereditary where Grandpa had them, Dad has 'em and they never went completely deaf.
I'm just one that says we should not celebrate mediocrity. Man can replace a heart but not cure the common cold, though some new meds might alleviate one. The fact is, there is technology stored away waiting for the right time and highest bidder, that will dwarf what we graciously accept now. Don't sell the best we have right off, we can make millions on this 'one large step forward' first.
Like a movie, theaters first at $8-10 per head, then the DVD for $19.95, then the 2-fer sale and finally the cut out bin (if it's a flop).
Mankind has microphones that far surpass what there are in a hearing aid today and processors that are smaller, faster and higher quality. If the margin of profit were lessoned, we could have twice the aid at half the price.
This is why I complain. I paid $4,200.00 for these things that produce sounds that could only be found in a 3rd rate science fiction movie. Then, my neighbor looks right at me, speaks and I can not understand a word she said. They go quiet during quiet conversations only to randomly brighten up after 6-10 seconds.
Has anyone experienced these situations? Do I need a professional adjustment or do I have $42.00 hearing aids disguised as $4,200.00 ones?
I'm glad I have something, and they do help, but there is too much locked up in secrecy and self help is not to be found.

I have no idea, my aids don't do anything like that no. My aids will shut down in extremely noisy situations and it seems to take a bit for them to start working right once I leave the area.....this usually a club/bar with a live band or really loud music. Maybe thats just my ears not the suds though lol. In a situation with just a lot of back ground noise they will cut down on that but it also muffles the person/people voice I'm trying to talk to so the speech in noise is kind of meh. But in a quiet situation, that's the ideal for a hearing aid to work best. So I got nothing man.

Also I've never heard of your aids. Did you go to a hearing aid dispenser ie miracle ear...instead of an audiologist? Have you seen an ENT?

Wait....you signed up on a site that has a bunch of deaf people, and you are whining about being duped into getting crappy hearing aids, and if we complain, you want us to stop whining?

Has anyone experienced these situations?

Yes, we all have had issues with crappy sounding hearing aids.

Do I need a professional adjustment or do I have $42.00 hearing aids disguised as $4,200.00 ones?

Like Ambrosia asked above....did you see a real ENT doctor and a licensed audiologist, or did you buy these things from a street vendor?

And, almost all of us can get our money back if we are not satisfied. Did you get a money-back guarantee?

That's right, hearing aids are made in some unknown village in Nepal by 10 year old slave workers making $10 per year, and they purposely give you bad ones so that you will keep coming back and eventually buy the right ones for a lot more.

Bottom line, dude, is that you probably should have done a little bit of homework on hearing aids before buying a brand that none of us ever heard of.

And, you are getting a small taste of the bullshit that people with perfect hearing usually give us when we are shopping for hearing aids....

There is an audiologist office not far from me that i looked into becasuse one of the people there specialized in apd. Theye where part of the "Audigy group" (yup audigy not audiology) franchise. They sell AGX aids that i think i read are rebranded starkey aids. I did not go so i can't say how good they where.

Did I actually tell Anyone to stop whining? It was a phrase. They say there's always two ways to take things and I apologize for being ambiguous. If you read my statement again, thoroughly, I did mention things differently than what you are responding to.

Yes, we all have had issues with crappy sounding hearing aids.

Yes, I saw an ENT, and they gave me a list of qualified offices, with degrees in Audiology. They are called the Audiology Group. I'm sure they have a licensed agreement to use the Audiology group name and sell their products. My aids are made by another company (Big Secret, they won't tell me who) and are probably more money than what I could buy elsewhere for. I did not do any diligence in 'shopping around' other than spot checking on-line prices, which also don't tell you much if you don't specifically know what you're after. There is little transparency in the hearing aid market..in my opinion.

Really, I wondered about that. They are definitely over paid.

Absolutely, you are correct. I didn't do that. I trusted the ENT's recommendation on a short list of where to go and this one was close to my job. You are still right, I should have scoped them out.

Yes, I never acquired much of a taste for bullshit. Thank you for that, that is what I'm writing about "the shit that comes with it". I introduced myself with what caused my condition (age and stupidity), and spoke of my cold comfort with hearing aids. I'm glad I have them, but I believe I was somewhat duped. I'm just looking for reliable feedback from other intelligent adults (such as yourself).

Didn't you want to buy this hearing aids, yourself? No one told you, you had to buy them. This means you were not duped! 99% of people try different brands and also from different audiologists to make sure they get the right price. If you didn't do that, then that's your problem.

Hearing aids do not give back normal hearing!

If you ever became profoundly deaf, it sounds like you'll be very depressed!

If you bought a better brand, then you would of been able to get loads of information for self help.

Phonak, Oticon and Siemens etc have a wealth of info on the Internet!

Dude, quit creating multiaccounts! It's also rude to call us all fools!

I think we're being to hard in this guy. He went somewhere his ENT recommended. It's not like he's going to have previous knowledge about hearing aids, it doesn't sound like he was trying to cheese out. We also shouldn't belittle the pain of losing your hearing. Their feelings arent something to be be mocked, or to look down for. Going from normal hearing to profoundly deaf is something deeply painful, their is a legit mourning period we go through, and it's perfectly understandable. Granted people whining about mild losses makes me grind my teeth, but going from hearing to deaf, no.

Can see where you are coming from but something so expensive, I would always shop around. I wouldn't buy a car from the first person/company I went too.

Altho I've worn hearing aids since about 9 months old, I would know to shop around, if I started wearing them later in life, mainly b/c they are so expensive :)
