Did you see any of the Australian ADers while there?

Did you see any sports events?

Nope

Sure I did. My friend, his two kids and I went to watch Aussie rule Football game in Melbourne.

I wanted to watch the rivalry rugby game between New Zealand All Blacks and Aussie Wallaballies, but the tickets were sold out. :mad2:

It sounds like you had a pleasant time visiting @ Australia. :)

As an foreigner visiting Australia - What impressed you the most when it comes to being accessible as a deaf person? What are the pros and cons of being in that country? Did you encounter a situation where your deafness was an issue as per communication barrier or the likes of that?

Is the the price on items, more expensive, or less expensive than Canada?

Yes it is.

Seeing my old Gally friend in Melbourne for the first time in 16 years.

That's soo cool, reuniting with an old buddy.

If my memory serves me well, was it winter time? If so, did you encounter any weather problems? Is it just as cold as Canada winters?

Sounds like a fun trip, Royale! :) How did you manage to save so much on your travels? Just experience, I suppose?

What have impressed me most about being accessible as a deaf person is they already have their IP relay service in existence as they have had VRS on trial. My old friend who is President of Deaf Australia, and I talked alot of issues that the Deaf people in Australia and Canada have faced and access and making things simpler and more convenience are most discussed issues that we had. In addition, the trains and trams in Melbourne and Sydney use electronic boards to tell us which stations they are going to stop and show their schedules at specific platforms. The tiny airport in Launceston even showed extra information such as boarding, security details and so on unedr every flight time and number in their flight information. The street and airport signs are easil readable and undersandable.

I have a few cons about Australia: their bulky 50 cents coins, rip off taxi fare, austexl which is a closed captioning tool on a remote control, and overpriced admissions at some attractions. I tend to follow alot of pros to allow me enjoy my time.

What interests me most is I am able to read their lips with a few words without using pen and paper unlike I have had to use while talking to people here in Canada. I tend to be lousy in lipreading, but in Australia, I did have a bit difficulty in reading them. The only difficulty that I had was to communicate foreign workers who were not native Aussies so I had to use pen and paper.

Most prices on various items except beverages seem to be similar between two countries. Water is expensive there because they have low supply of water in especially in southern part of Australia. The dam near Melbourne had only 27 percent of water supply for people of Melbourne and surrounding areas as of two wqeeks ago. It is my understanding that they are building a new desalination plant near Melbourne which should be ready sooner than 2012 to provide much needed water supply there. Even there has been a talk about building a giant network of water pipelines between the north which has alot of water supply and south. All beverages and foods which come or are mixed with water are expensive.

The bottle of water in Australia is between 25 to 50 cents more than here.

The local flights in Australia are much cheaper in Australia than here. I paid between $180 to 190 for three Virgin Blue flights.

The tickets of city trains, trams and buses in Sydney and Melbourne are not expensive.

Yes it was their wintertime and they were not as cold as in Canada. :) I arrived at Sydney airport with pairs of t-shirt and short cargo pants and my friend wearing pair of warm jackets and sweaters and jeans were flabbergasted to see me. I was asked if I felt cold and I said, "No, not really."

My friends in Australia provided me some extra information on costs as I did some research myself.

How does it feel to go back in time. Shifting time zones?

I feel so different because of blatant changes of time zones and also different worlds.

Australia is so different and very unique.
