Today's THV - KTHV Little Rock News Article
Imagine your child has to go to a special education school hours from where you live, it's hard to see him or even communicate in any way.
There are more than 60 junior high and high school students living in dorms at Arkansas School for the Deaf.
They are always in need of school supplies, uniforms and toiletries and this Christmas two parents are out to fulfill those wishes and many more.
Silence is all Dallas Smith hears, his mom - Angel Smith is his voice.
For more than 6-years, Smith and Christopher Fear's children have been enrolled at Arkansas school for the deaf.
Christopher Fears and his daughter are deaf, he signs, “Christmas is always the best but this year at the Arkansas School for the Deaf, the children are going to have a wonderful Christmas.”
Both Smith and Fears are committed to helping all deaf children at the school with the "Angel's Wings Foundation" a project they started last month.
Smith’s says, “There's not enough money for government support for these children and for food and clothing and for school supplies. That's why it's very important to have extra money here for the school and students.”
Fear’s signs, “I've seen many children that never have this experience and I feel it's real important to give what I have so that other children can have and I want to teach my daughter to do the same in the future when she's older.”
When Smith asked the children for a Christmas list she was shocked to learn what they wanted.
Smith says, “They want coats and shoes for Christmas and tears came to my eyes and I said we have enough money for this but what about gifts for Christmas."
Thursday, "Box Turtle" gave the deaf school their first toy donation.
Smith and Fears tell “Box Turtle” owner, Emese Boone how thankful they are and how much she has helped the children. Boone than asks how to sign “you’re welcome.”
Smith says, "Not only for the holidays, we want to continue this foundation with the following sponsors and possibly putting a kid through college."
The children will all get shoes and coats in addition to a shopping spree at Wal-Mart next week.
For more information on how to help the "Angel's Wings Foundation," call Angel Smith at (501)681-4869.
