Hello all! I'm not sure what exactly I'm doing wrong and hopefully someone may be able to help me.

We've had the VP for about 6 months now and haven't used it for about a month now due to DSL problems with local phone service and switching over to Comcast.

Can someone tell me if my switching over to Comcast totally messed something up? I tried emailing my VP Rep and he hasn't responded yet.

Thanks for your help.

you mean you moved and another phone number, yeah you will change vp-100's personal number then call to SorensonVRS ask please reset on server, they will change your phone number

Thanks a bunch.. I have already put in a service call (email) to Sorenson and am waiting for them to reply.. I thought I had to do something here on my end.. well, actually I do.. wait patiently, right? lol.. :D

Thanks again.

Okay, I guess I was having a "dork" moment.. but we didn't move and we didn't change our phone number, all that was changed was just the ISP.. would I still have to wait for Sorenson to reset our VP?

Changing phone number don't have to be done when changing your phone number with phone company. Sorenson and phone company has NOTHING to do with each other. You can create your own phone number EVEN if it is not your real phone number. It is nice thing because sometimes when we have harassment calls or prank calls, all we can do is just change phone number on the VP then let your friends know new phone number... No need to report to Sorenson because sorenson will update themselves automatically.

not need to call sorenson to reset if you change vp number

If your VP-100 doesn't work -

Since you had DSL before, chances are you have a D-Link Switch (model DSS-5+). Now you have Comcast, you need a D-Link Router (Model DI-604). Or you can go to the store and buy your own router. Don't forget to set up port forwarding or DMZ to the static IP address set to the VP (probably 192.158.0.125)

If it works fine, then doesn't matter about changing phone number.

There is nothing wrong with either DI-604 (wireless router) and DI-DSS-5+ for the cable modem...

DI-DSS-5+ is a wired switch (not wireless). It is also for government...

You may need to continue working on your VP. Maybe you are missing something else or do not plug into WAN port. Let the router/switch shares in open ports instead of WAN. I know my DI-604 at home works without WAN and my DI-DSS-5+ works with WAN. Don't ask me why...

DI-604 is not wireless router. You may think it is DI-624.

Anyway, if you switch to Comcast or any cable high speed internet service from any DSL service, you have to change to Dynamic IP Address from PPPoE in the WAN settings. And also, no need for DSS 5+. DI-604 router would be just suffecient for this WAN setting.

You are wrong. DI-604 is not wireless, and DSS-5+ is not for the government. You can buy them anywhere.

That is for if you have i2eye, but sonEARS has Sorenson, so the only way to share his computer with VP-100 is to use a router. There is no setting in VP-100 to use PPPoE in WAN settings.

sonEARS - can you confirm what router/switch you have, and what DSL provider you had before? It's a little vague, but what exactly is the problem you're having?

ILOVEVP and RickL66,

Both of you probably are correct. I have no idea why federal government would not accept router. I thought it is about wireless device. However, the federal government made their own IT policy. They easily approve DSS-5+ switch instead of DI-604 router. The federal agency has right to make their decision due to the very senstive technology.

I had some people telling me that the router is wireless and switch is wired.

Thanks for clearing up the matter...

Both DSS-5+ switch and DI-604 router do work very well on VP...

DSL to Cable Modem

Suspect:
Your Router may set as DSL connection with former provider that required login/password.

Solution:
Since Camcast is cable modem, all you have to do is run the wizzard in your router setting. Then select Cable Modem instead DSL.

Trick:
After you follow the direction and still not working, Reset your cable modem if available or unplug the power for about 5 minutes. You may also need to reset your router as well after reset the cable modem.

Models: Router
Any routers can work with sorenson VP-100. I have done with several model of router to work with it. So does not matter if you are using DI-5xx or DI-6xx.

Hope this help

Necessary?

I don't think this is necessary to change personal information when moving one location to another.

You can keep the personal information for your life once the information is loaded into database.

Firewall

Suspect: Firewall
If you are using AOL 9.0, chance is that the Magic Port grab your Router and cause it not to work.

Solutions:
Go to your AOL 9.0 and find the Magic Port. Or look at the bottom of your monitor and open the taskbar. Look at far right and find Magic Port. Open the property and turn it off.

Try and see if VP finally works. Then turn Magic Port back on if you want to.

Magic Port are under AOL 9.0. When you turn on your PC and Magic Port search the nearest connection such as Router or Cable modem. It grab the port and locked.

Other Firewall Solutions:
You may need to load 1720 for TCP and 15327-15333 for both TCP/UDP. Sometime your company install the rental Cable Modem with built-in Firewall so you need to set your router to load the 1720 and 15327-15333 to allow VP to go through WAN.
