The Western Regional Association of Rural Banks (ARB) has donated quantities of foodstuff and provisions to the Sekondi School for the Deaf at Inchaban.
The items included two bags of rice, one bag of sugar and one crate of cowbell milk powder Mr. Emmanuel Duah, President of the Regional ARB and a director of ARB Apex Bank, presented the items to the school.

Speaking at the function, Mr Theophilius Obeng, Regional Manager of ARB Apex Bank, said the donation formed part of the activities marking the first Rural Banks Week and the World Thrift Day. He said rural banks are making efforts to extend their services to physically challenged people. Mr Obeng said many rural banks are providing facilities at their premises to make it easy for the physically challenged to transact business there.

He said rural banks have been established to provide services to the poor and other people who cannot take advantage of services of the traditional banks.

Mr Obeng said the first rural bank was established at Agona Nyankrom in 1976, and currently there are 13 rural banks in the region and about 120 in the whole country.

He said the ARB has launched "Efie Ne Efie", a saving mobilization product that would enable people working outside their hometowns to open accounts with rural and community banks in their hometowns. Mr Samuel Kodwo Torbor, Headmaster of the School, who received the donation, said the school has a student population of 273.

He said the school consists of kindergarten, JSS and Vocational schools and pursues same curriculum as the other schools do.

Mr Torbor said two dormitories of the school have been converted into a dinning hall, which could not accommodate the children. He, therefore, appealed for assistance to construct a new dinning hall.
