I bought converter box at circuit city with coupons from government.
($40 dollars coupons (2), i paid $24.00 for one but will get another one later).

my TV doesn't have a cable, just regular channel.
well, i got zenith converter box and there's CC that can change any font, colors and transparent. (finally, tired of same black-white CC).

BTW, keep your TV antenna that needs to connect to DTV box. (ugly TV antenna, disappointed, but i hide it behind).

I heard that someone says, "you don't need DTV box for cable like warner time or charter because of HDTV already". :dunno2: (not sure). My partner have a cable from time warner but he's not sure if DTV box can connect to cable box but HDTV in there already.

It is true that if you subscribe to a tv cable, you don't need to buy a converter. The cable company do all the work for you. I also saw a new tv (regular - 13") that already have a converter inside.

I have been looking for one that is $40 but the cheapest one I can find is $50 before rebate. Anybody found the $40 converter yet????

Correction: ATSC turner built-in.

ASTC only use UHF not VHF that my friend have converter box, he saw ugly antenna from VHF, becuase VHF is big antenna but UHF is small antenna, ASTC requires UHF big antenna. he bought UHF Big antenna on roof, all clear screen!

ATSC is also VHF, too. For example, NBC 40 HD in Tallahassee (WTWC-DT) is broadcasted in channel 2 (actual broadcast), but is mapped to channel 40 subchannel 1 aka 40-1 (NBC 40's analog channel is 40).

My SharpShooter 3000 Indoor antenna can receive TV stations within a 30 mile range, but the only 3 digital stations I receive are PBS HD (WFSU-DT), CBS HD (WCTV-DT), and FOX 49 HD (WTLH-DT). Three analog channels I get are NBC 40 (WTWC), ABC 27 (WTXL), and PBS (WFSU).

Here're all the stations that are available in zip code 32304:

Does that means I need to buy the converter if I buy that regular tv with ATSC turner built-in???

Let me clear it up. You don't need the converter, if you buy a TV that comes with ATSC tuner built in. If it doesn't have ATSC tuner built in, you might need to get a converter (only the people who are getting TV signals over the air) aka antenna. You don't have to worry about it, if you already have digital cable subscribed. The cable box is a converter, itself.

Thanks, guys! I like small tv as it is easier on my wallet and perfect for kitchen while cooking.
