I've recently begun running (just on the treadmill...without my hearing aids due to sweat) and will soon venture out onto the main roads. My question is...is it safer to run with hearing aids (for protection from traffic, strangers etc), or without (due to sweating, rain etc)? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your input!

See Jiro; in addition to his sunglasses, he is now promoting "earbrellas".

I ran 7 mile routes three times a week back when the weather was tolerable. Alas, I am not a dedicated runner, and I've stopped until weather gets back up to at least 50 degrees. (Please forgive me, Dean Karnazes. I just can't do the treadmill. I can't!)

Anyway, I never ran with my aids in. I didn't think it was necessary. If you keep your eyes open and stay aware of your surroundings, you will be fine. As a runner, you will become aware of a dangerous situation much sooner than a person driving a car, so just remember that.

My aids are Naida's, which are water resistant and rated for strenuous sports, but I never ran with them because I liked the silence it provided. Allowed me to find that "runner's high" much more easily. I guess if you don't mind this, and you've got some good resistant aids, then go for it.

Good luck!
