Not sure if this is repost... :ugh3:

I have good question to ask.. I am not really experts about Amish cultures or the way how they live in life. That is something new to think about and I been wondering since the shooting....

As a Amish person, you lives on debt free, no computers, no technology, no phone, no microwave, no nothing, just working on the farm and selling quilts and few wood making items to make money... They don't believe the bank or other stuffs like credit cards, checking, etc... How can they call for an emergency like 9-1-1 like what happened in Lancaster, PA shooting. A phone is a good thing to keep in touch with everyone like talking to other members.

As you are pregnant with a child, they don't believe hospital. When a baby born, how does the courthouse or Social Security know that this child is born, if they don't have the confirmation of birth certification or anything.
If no birth certification with a doctor signatures, they can't apply for social security card, Am I right?? If they have birth certification with doctor signatures, they can apply for social security card... I remember my son had a real birth certification with the doctor's signature and star press on the paper which it mean that is my son's real birth certification, and the courthouse has a copy and my son has applied for social security card, and when he get older, he will get medicad from them.

Also what happen if Amish woman have breech or something happen, do they believe c-section?? What would happen?? Do women tried to push hard to get the child out, and she passed out or the baby died during childbirth?

If one of the Amish broke a arm or leg, do they have to go to the hospital to get cast or surgery if possible, do they believe going to the hospital or doctor?? What about cancer, do they believe chemotherapy??

When one Amish person passed away, they put in handmade coffin, not like you see in funeral home, with the nice pillow, comforters, flowers, etc. They put dead person in the wood coffin box and bury in.. I was like, "Oh geeshh..." Also there are many tv shows, operas and movies on TV, and there are video games and so on.. Does the kids ever get a chance to have some luxury like we do??

For eating, do they ever try taste pizza, sandwiches, and other delicious meals???

I know there are many questions to find out what is like living in Amish style, and for myself, I CANNOT imagine living WITHOUT technology, appliances, vehicles, medicals, and many more. I feel bad for them that they don't believe everything in 2000's (electricities, waters, toliets, stoves, microwaves, tv, computers, phones, cell phones, etc) and I do feel bad for those adults and kids who have abosuletly no idea what's going on in the whole world. I know I cannot live without electricity, I know I cannot live without internet, and I know I cannot live without a car and I know I cannot live without a hospital, and many more..

But I am curious what is like living in Amish and why they choose and why they don't believe in and why, why, why and many more.

If anyone know more about Amish, please discuss about it... No OFF TOPIC, please..

Yes she did made the thread. But Amish's life is really intersting. I've heard the food is awesome! And their crafts stuff are so beautiful such as quilt and others. I've met Amish family last year when we got Tahoe. :)
I think there are two kind of Amish? :dunno:
Modern Amish (means they use electcity, cars, at at fast food etc)
Old-fashioned (means do not use electcity, not use car, must use horse buggy, etc)

Oh poop! I see Liebling:)) made a thread about Amish living!

i have one hospital certificate certified that TJ was born in the hospital.. then i had to apply for birth certificate from Health dept.. they gave me the application at the hospital to apply and they mail to health dept for me. nice of them? easy for mothers so they wont have to worry? i still have hospital certificate of TJ.. in his baby book.. :) i just want to clear this up.. ok.. :)

back to the topic.. i cant imagine living in amish community and cant go on internet? watch tv? eat american foods? car?? clothes?? many things.. i cant.. i cant imagine being pregnant and having a midwife do this.. i rather go to hospital and have baby in case something go wrong ?

but then you know its very interesting with their culture and why they do this way?? sigh..

The only "techology" they use is electricity for lights but not really used in everywhere.

They want to live their way, we just rather live our way where the future is upon us.

Anyone who seen the movie "The witness" starring Harris Ford would understand what the culture is like there.

If u ask me, I happen to see Amish as the VERY stubborn people who refused to do what most people do when it comes to techology, hospitals, stores, etc...

no they dont have electricity..

if you noticed yesterday when the shooting incident happened.. not long after they called in the electricity co to come in and hook electricity on so they can see as the investigation would go on into the night.

i saw the truck on cnn so i know some agency ordered it so they can see better especially as it will go on who knows how long might be into night? never know...

Yes I saw DVD last Saturday after won at ebay bid last week. very interesting...

I think in extreme emergencies, The Amish will go to the hospital and have a doctor keep an eye on the Amish patient. I do know Pennsylvania hospitals do take Amish patients sometimes but I am not too sure about the Amish when it comes to pregnancy matters and birth certificates etc. I would think they do get some modern services but they will want to keep it to a minimum and only when really necessary.
