A student at Austin's Texas School for the Deaf was arrested on campus Thursday accused of sexually assaulting another student in a bathroom there last month.

School officials are sending home a letter to parents Thursday night confirming the arrest of 18-year-old student Braden Caldwell.

Caldwell is accused of using another student to lure the 19-year-old victim to a boy's bathroom on campus where the victim says Caldwell grabbed her and assaulted her.

All of the students involved are hearing and speech impaired.

The victim is also mentally retarded and was sitting alone in a classroom at the time of the alleged attack.

The pastor of the church across the street from the school says he works with students and staff daily and believes TSD is safe.

"I think they have a great security staff. I know many of them myself. They're very active. They can communicate with the kids. The school is a closed campus. You'll notice the gates all around, and they're very careful making sure the kids are kept safe," Pastor Mark Seeger said.

Texas School for the Deaf Superintendent Claire Bugen issued a short statement pledging full cooperation with authorities.

Austin Police say they're looking into whether the suspect has a history of violent tendencies.

The Texas School for the Deaf is home to more than 450 students, ranging in age from preschool to high school.
