so... Obamacare.... do you want to abolish it completely? or revise it such as remove "mandatory" clause?

say your piece here, my fellow Americans! :cool2:

aboli-vive, certain portions felt like money grew on trees. It's not a bad concept, it just needs to be spiked with realism. Standardization can be done that is accepted on a scale that benefits everyone.

*does american duty*

Just made a tiny correction - "revise" instead of "revive". my bad.

I agree. I don't want to see the health care bill gutted. However, I believe there's aspects of it that will be bad for Americans. Therefore, we should revise it.

Do you believe or do you know? There's a world of difference. In a recent speech Palin said that the bill will increase abortions. She believes it, I guess, but that does not make her correct.

Palin is a fruitcake. :laugh2:

At any rate, here's the way I see it. Forcing small businesses to provide insurances to their employees is going to bankrupt them, or, could. However, I support forcing the insurance companies to do away with the pre-existing condition clause.

My concern, too, is that in the long run how are we going to pay for what Obama wants? I think he tried to give the American people what they wanted, but, I also think he was naive as to the long term costs to us. I also don't like the way Obama got the bill passed. Locking senators in a room?! You can bet their was a LOT of deals made behind closed doors that are NOT in the best interest of this country's citizens.

Just my .02

I understand your concerns as I understood them. However, regarding the bolded in your post, what would you consider a small business? It is my understanding that only those with at least 49 employees would be required to provide insurance for workers. If one can afford 49 employees, he/she OUGHT to provide insurance anyway, and afford it as well. Just my two cents, but I am open to other arguments, since of course I could be wrong.

That's a good point. To be honest with you, I didn't pay that much attention to the news coverage at the time the bill was winding through Congress. I did pay attention to the vote, however. I admit that I should be a little more versed in this before I get in too deeply on the conversation. However, being a centrist/left, I am leery of extremes. That's either a far right agenda or a far left one. I'm willing to see what pans out in the next two years or so.

I also believe that the mandates will be gradually phased in in the next few years. That's if the law isn't gutted in the meantime. I truly DO NOT want to see the entire law scrapped. I think that would be a shame. Obama has done some good things with this law, but, I do believe that the law can use some tweaking. That's just my opinion, and, I could be wrong, too. As I said, I'm speaking as someone who's only peripherally informed of everything that was contained in the bill that was passed, so I'm leery to speak to specifics or my beliefs on them until I am more informed.

I voted revise, but only because you had no other option. Removing the mandatory clause severely weakens the reform. Think about it.
