A Tractor That Could

LoL. I don't think it was crazy if they had a higher geared ratio to pull better. They need suitcase weights on the front to prevent flip ups. They don't even have ROPS so that is a major no no here in USA. (sorry i am a tractor guy) :aw:

Cool that you drive a tractor! We have a Kubota with a loader and a backhoe for our small farm. I will have to learn how to drive it this summer. My father loves it. It does not have a 3-point hitch. I bought a York raker that needs the hitch. Bummer! It's hard for us to find a cheaper price to buy the 3-point hitch. I was told that it cost 800 bucks.

I have a Bobcat, does that count  Worked at John Deere for a couple of years too...

This thread reminded me of Michigan. My grandfather had a dairy farm from after WWII until early 1970's. As a kid a JD was what I learned to drive way before getting my drivers license at 16:

To start it, you had to turn over the large flywheel on the side. It took a strong man. Fortunately they had a hill near the barn where he parked two of them. You just released the brake and rolled down until you got enough speed and let out the clutch. If it did not start by the time you reached the bottom, I heard it from my dad

JD's sounded like a thumping Harley.

I just love the very distinctive sound of a JD! Been a while now, tho.....a very long while.
