McKINNEY, Texas — A jury is deliberating the fate of a 53-year-old suburban Dallas man convicted on aggravated assault charges for knowingly infecting six women with the virus that causes AIDS.

Philippe Padieu faces five to 99 years in prison on each of the six counts.

Since HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, Collin County prosecutors claim Padieu's bodily fluids were a deadly weapon.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa King told jurors on Friday that Padieu deserves a life sentence because he gave the women a death sentence.

Defense attorney Bennie House said Padieu may have made some mistakes as a "modern day Casanova," but he did not intentionally spread the virus. He says a 20-year sentence would be fair.

Padieu is a former martial arts instructor from Frisco who tested positive for HIV in September 2005, but continued to have unprotected sex.

WEAR CONDOMS!!!!! If the guy says no to wearing them, THEN DONT HAVE SEX WITH HIM!!!! I think both parties were stupid.

The guy deserves the sentence since he knew he was HIV positive. He says he didnt do it on purpose? Guess he lacks serious common sense!

A Canadian HIV-positive man accused of knowingly transmitting the virus to several women died yesterday of AIDS, leaving a judge to decide whether to issue a verdict in the case, said an activist. Charles Ssenyonga died Tuesday morning, said a nursing supervisor at Listowel Memorial Hospital, where the Ugandan immigrant and former shopkeeper had been recently admitted. Justice Dougald McDermid of the Ontario Court's General Division is expected to deliver his verdict on Aug. 4 after Ssenyonga's three-month trial in London on three counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm. Mike Sauer, assistant executive director of the AIDS Committee of London, said, "If there's not a decision, there will be all kinds of people who get nothing." However, a verdict may also be ineffective because Ssenyonga could never serve a penalty nor be set free, said Sauer. Ssenyonga had previously pleaded not guilty and was banned from having sex at one point. He tested HIV-positive in 1989. Later, three women he had had unprotected sex with between then and 1991 also tested positive for HIV. In June, he spent four days in the witness box and testified that he sometimes thought of death, but said he had not thought about the inevitable deaths of the women he allegedly infected. Ssenyonga's lawyers contended that he suffered from a psychological condition known as post- traumatic stress disorder, which caused his conscious mind to block out his illness. source

The public health even had him under a "no sexual proclivity" watch.

that's interesting,Mrs Boo-kay and yes it does happen, sometimes denial itself is the biggest killer we have.

It would be good common sense if he sleep with some women who have AIDS or HIVs instead of 'clean women'. I think?

Grummer, yes I agree. Denial is the worst of all.

Karissa_Mann, he should not be copulating with anyone at all. HIV infected or not. Each time he beds with another woman, he runs the risk of impregnating her so it's best he is sterilised & under a no-sexual proclivity order.

Ah, I forget about that. Yeah, agreeable. A "no sex" option is seemingly only one choice, by then. So, he should to take that.

I think all parties are equally to blame. The man should have used protection and the women should have closed their legs and said no.
