16-year-old boy drowns in lake | Nayandahalli Lake | Pantharapalya | Indian Express

A 16-year-old deaf and dumb boy drowned in Nayandahalli Lake near Pantharapalya on Mysore Road, on Friday morning.

Reportedly, the boy had gone to pick bottles and other things floating on the lake. The Fire Department personnel succeeded in fishing out his body after searching for it for eight hours.

The deceased has been identified as Manikanta, son of Krishnappa and Malligamma. The family hailed from Tamil Nadu.

Manikanta, deaf and dumb by birth, had gone to the lake in the morning to collect bottles and he picked a cricket ball. As he tried to clean the ball in the lake water, he lost balance and fell in the lake, the police said. As it had rained heavily on Friday, the flow of water was intense and it is said that this led to the tragedy.

Fire Department's rescue team searched for Manikanta's body in the lake with the help of locals, police and BBMP personnel. But as there was a lot of slush in the lake, it hampered the operation. Police have registered a case of unnatural death.
