10-year term for raping deaf and mute minor

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) R K Sondhi sentenced Badal Verma, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Chandigarh, to ten-year imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old deaf and mute girl.

A case on charges of abduction and rape against Badal was registered on the complaint of Baskali, mother of the rape victim. She had alleged that in August 2003, her daughter went missing at night. And next morning, one of her relatives told her that she was lying near a nullah. Baskali found her in an injured condition and rushed her to GMCH-32, where doctors confirmed rape.

Initially, three persons were arrested by the UT Police, but later after the identification parade, Badal was booked under sections 366 and 376 of the IPC.

As the girl was deaf and dumb and could not record her statements, her evidence was recorded in the court with the help of a paediatric psychiatry expert and a doctor. With the help of sign language, the victim testified that she was raped by Badal.

Badal was held guilty and given five years on charges of abduction and ten years on charges of rape, and fines of Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively, were imposed.

Well, the sentence imposed on this creep's better than what rapists'd get in the Western courts.
