How do I pick the correct cochlear implant company?

Decided to go with Advanced bionics due to their mri compatibility. Don't want to have to have surgery to remove magnet should I ever need to have an MRI done. Getting Naida q 90. I considered med el but they have the shortest battery life. If Cochlear was mri friendly, I would have chosen them.

How do I pick the correct cochlear implant company?

I like AB because they apparently have the widest IDR and highest PPS. Also their hires 3-d ultra is MRI friendly.

thanks everyone for your responses. think I am leaning more towards advanced bionics but am also considering cochlear company. going on Wednesday to the doctor to look at the different ones. see what happens. AB seems to have better technology but am drawn to Cochlear's streaming options.

Anyone experienced loneliness and anxiety being hoh or deaf?

Definitely. Even before I lost my hearing, I still struggled with loneliness but it has really gone up since I lost my hearing last month. I feel suddenly shut off from the rest of the world.

Would it be worth it to get my left (bad) ear implanted?

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure about getting both ears done at one time. Seems like it would make for a trickier recovery, but on the other hand, I don't want to do surgery twice. For sure I am getting my right ear implanted in a few weeks. But I'm not certain if I'll do my left ear on the same day...

Would it be worth it to get my left (bad) ear implanted?

MRI I had showed not much hearing nerve on the left side of my head. The doctor said he could implant my left ear if I wanted but couldn't guarantee that it would have any benefits but he also said that the longer I wait, the less likely I'd be to have any benefit in that ear. The hearing loss...

How do I pick the correct cochlear implant company?

Yeah Advanced Bionics seems good technology wise. Apparently they have 80db input dynamic range? What does that mean really? On the chart it says Cochlear has 22 electrodes and AB 16 but then it says a higher count somewhere else. I'm a little confused by that.

How do I pick the correct cochlear implant company?

It's not that active. I hate to sound ungrateful but I am feeling aggravated about all this because I feel so confused by all the information and I want to be certain that I'm picking the correct one. This is a big deal. Whatever one I choose will be with me a long time.

yeah went for third Thanks for the link but I don't understand what any of those terms in the chart mean. What is maximum stimulation rate? Are more channels better? What are electrode drivers? What does maximum simultaneous driver mean?

How do I pick the correct cochlear implant company?

Apparently there are Mel ed, Advanced Bionics and Cochlear. People have said to pick which ever one goes with my lifestyle. But I don't know what that means. How do I know I am picking the best one for myself? I feel aggravated and overwhelmed by all this.

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

Yikes. If you want, they can put you under anesthesia, or just give you some laughing gas. Usually they just give you a shot to numb your mouth. You'll feel a slight pressure, along with some pulling but it shouldn't hurt. The first few days of the recovery will be uncomfortable. Your mouth will...

Woke up not being able to hear 5 days ago

My right ear (good ear) now has a 80-100 decibel loss but it used to be 50-80 decibels, virtually unchanged since I was first tested at age 3 twenty-two years ago. With my hearing aid in, I could understand about 90% of spoken words in a quiet room. Now I can't understand speech at all unless I...

Woke up not being able to hear 5 days ago

Yes there are lots of deaf actors and celebrities out there. I know of Marleen Martin who played on an episode of Seinfeld one time. In real life she is married with 4 kids. Another lady who was in the American beauty pageants is deaf and also is married with 4 kids. So seeing deaf people in the...
