Recent petition to the british government

I've often wondered why sign languages are not taught in schools. When I was a child, my older Sister's school taught it as they had a department for deaf students at the school and the children were all together for certain lessons and during break time. Yes, there are a limited amount of...

Building Confidence - Initiating small talk

I think that what you write is a good exercise for everyone. I know you're opening a discussion within the context of this forum but I think it can apply to everyone. A simple greeting or kind and thoughtful word goes a long way. Often, I'm so much in my own thoughts or worries, I forget to look...

Im 20 and i just been told im going deaf..

I don't know the causes of your hearing loss or tinnitus, so I can only relate mine. My tinnitus has got louder over the years, mostly because of the slow degeneration of my middle ear. My most recent hearing loss when my mastoid bones collapsed a bit more resulted in it really roaring. My ENT...

A Thread About Absolutely Nothing! Part III

If I'm sitting on the sofa, my dog tries to climb on top of my head when he thinks I've forgotton his walkie. My other dog comes and sticks her nose in my ear to wake me up in the morning. My third dog's got an obsession with the cat's food. My husband believes they're all just a reflection of me.

What did you learn today? Part II

I learnt that sometimes it's fun to spend money on something just because the something is exciting and I want to. Normally I'm pretty strict with spending cos I have four kiddies who eat money . But....I bought my Son a health and ancestry dna test

I mìght be mistaken with this, so don't take this as fact but aren't there HA which produce white noise and help with coping with tinnitus ?? Does anyone else know more about that ? I know a colleague of mine had something similar when she developed over sensitive hearing. It might be woth...

Im 20 and i just been told im going deaf..

Yes, tinnitus is constant and it can really get you down. It would be good if you got a list of coping suggestions from different people so that you can find a solution for yourself. As a doctor once told me, it's not going to go away. I appreciated his honesty because I think that for myself...

Im 20 and i just been told im going deaf..

Hi, I could see nobody had replied yet. I'm no expert but I do know that, although our experience of our individual hearing and it's ups and downs are all different, certain things we can relate to. I had tinnitus as long as I can remember. I used to think the sounds I was hearing as a child...

What would you rather be doing right now??

I love it when it's really cold. I tend to go into hibernation in the heat. Right now, I'd like to be Winter bathing in the sea or walking on a windy clifftop with my dogs and family.

Can someone explain what a deaf person is "supposed to look like"?

I don't know but I can ask my dog, Murphy. He tends to bark at me very loudly when he's having a conversation with me about walkies, squirrels or dinner time, so he must suspect that I'm not quite catching everything he's talking about. I've never told him my ears aren't quite as good as his (...

    Hearing aid falling out.

Thanks. It's much better than it was. Part of it is just getting used to it. Realising that HAs don't have little antennas sticking out was a eureka moment :mrgreen:

    Person Below Me

I enjoy sending things to my family in my home country, especially my Nieces and Nephew. I rather send them as surprises because I remember how exciting it was as a kid to get a parcel in the post. TPBM If you were given the opportunity to do one thing which would otherwise never be within your...

    Hearing Aid Interview

I'd forgotten that birds tweet in the trees in Winter. Socially it's a godsend. I sat and had a conversation the other day withought having to pretend I heard what the other person was saying, make excuses to do a runner, laugh and say " yes " and then get weird looks or keep asking them to...

    Hearing aid falling out.

It's a little silicone one which fits in the entrance to the ear canal and has a wire to bte. I was looking up how to put the hearing aid on last night. There's a bit which I'd left sticking out of my ear, like a small antenna. I thought that's what it was and it was catching in my hair. Now I...

    Hearing aid falling out.

Thank you Zephren. I had a mold done, so it should fit. I think I need to just get used to putting it on. It's a bit like learning to tie shoe laces. It should become second nature soon. I'll definitely look up the ear clips.
