    Name Signs

    I was surprised, when I met my Deaf of Deaf cousins, to find out that they have no name signs--I thought all DODs had them, from their parents. Then I found out that's not necessarily so.

    "hearing ability lost" a problematic phrase?

    That's an ageist assumption. True, most people with old age hearing loss don't learn to sign or want any part of Deaf culture, including some of my cousins, but not all of us.
