Lost my hearing in both ears just a year ago.

SOB, that's crazy glad you are still here. I'm only posting due to pure coincidence, I was watching an episode of Scrubs which had a Cochlear Implant as part of the story line (S6 E16) I haven't logged onto this site in years but figured I'd check it out after watching the episode and saw your...

    Med el,rondo

Can't remember which magnet, maybe the 2? I've never had issues with magnets at all.

    Med el,rondo

I tried the Rondo, I didn't like it (male, 38). It stuck out to far so I couldn't wear hats and I would knock it off on if I rested my head on the couch. I think people either love them or hate them. BTE for me.

    Has anybody liked their CIs?

I just got activated to be bilateral yesterday, music is now pretty awesome considering. I too thought they were useless for music when I only had the 1 CI, bilateral for 24hrs has really made a difference. Not recording studio difference, but enough for me to feel good about it. Hope your...

So really you were just trying to generate traffic by posting here as well.

The Cochlear Implant Isn't Always What You Think It Is

I'm going to be critical. You've pretty much just offered your opinion. You didn't offer much for it to be 'viral'. It sounds like you want parents to have better expectations yet you don't offer any a method to do so. Where you a child implanted and chose to stop using your CI (or just because...

    CIs and Music

I am glad you're satisfied, but I simply can't believe you had 'normal' hearing and make that statement. 12-24 channels of a CI simply cannot produce what your original 3,500 hair cells could produce. Only replying so future readers don't get a false sense of hope when it comes to music.

    CIs and Music

I am with Southpaw, music as I once knew it is gone and it sucks. For reference, I had PERFECT hearing prior to it suddenly crapping out. In college my roommate was in a band, I helped him with his sound mix for their CD. Hearing 'high-fidelity' through professional studio monitor speakers is...

Autoimmune disease & CI? (not the ears though!)

If you want/need/try to maintain your former 'hearing' life/job and community after your hearing loss sign won't help you. Let me be clear, I'm only disputing the value of sign in the specific instance of trying to live in the 'hearing' world. I agree sign is an invaluable tool, but you have to...

Autoimmune disease & CI? (not the ears though!)

Re-read my post, I didn't say learning sign meant you gave up your identity or community. Loosing one's hearing does that and learning sign will not make you part of your former 'hearing' community or 'hearing' identity. If one chooses to learn sign over getting a CI, by all means more power to...

Autoimmune disease & CI? (not the ears though!)

#rolleyes..... if you are late-deafend and live in a 'hearing' world, sign is worthless. I have a good job to maintain, I have bills to pay, I have medical insurance needs. I lost my hearing but that doesn't have mean I need to lose all sense of my identify and community. Back to the original...

    Cochlear Implants Facts

The section "Difficulties with Everyday Use of Cochlear Implants" was laughable. Scrapping the bottom of the barrel to discourage people from considering it. Everyday difficulties - having trouble understanding the guy/gal at the McDonalds drive through, sudden dead battery. Everyday perks - I...

    Cochlear America or MELD -EL?

*rolleyes I'm still correct until it's approved by the FDA. So a good year or so before that's a reality. But I'll modify my statement. Med-El is the only CURRENT CI with 1.5T/3.0T FDA approval here in the states. Glad to see this is catching on.

    Cochlear America or MELD -EL?

What counts is how much effort you put into it. All 3 brands can allow a person to achieve good results, but there are so many variables to success that you can't say one has the advantage over the other. This is a pretty slow forum, I find there is a much better CI community on the respective...

    Stressed out over CI

I have to agree with the last sentence. I attribute my struggles to a lack of any true rehab program for a CI user. I understand rehab as many high school football related injuries let me into surgeries an rehab programs. While those programs only lasted 6-8 weeks they were very structured and...

    Stressed out over CI

I feel your pain, I'm going from a world of perfect hearing to a world of CI robotic hearing and I have similar emotional swings. For me I can't seem to get a good mapping balance. If I direct connect to just about anything I do very well. Listen to ESPN every morning, talk shows I get 80+%...

    MRI in 2 weeks

In case anyone is interested, I had the MRI today without much drama. This was done at Mayo Clinic, one of the members of the CI surgical team was there to assist in the procedure, she actually was the one who told me I was a candidate for a CI 2 years ago, so that was a nice surprise to see a...

    MRI in 2 weeks

Yes they know. It's been an extremely coordinated effort to do this as it's in the best interests of my health. Med-El's newest implant system "Synchrony" is rated for 3.0T MRI scans. MRIs will be common for CI users in the not-to-distant future...
