    Looking for advice/feedback

My only issue with BTE is the settings. Taking just the 500hz, If bone is showing 30 and air is showing 90 and booth has shown 90, 45 and 70, respectively over a 30 day period. Which one is right? Those are huge changes over a short period of time which promoted the most recent ABR. I'm sure the...

Looking for advice on my 22 month old's mixed hearing loss

I am not informed enough to comment about the deaf culture conspiracy. What I do know is that my daughter was improperly diagnosed. A bone conduction test would have identified a conductive loss but it was never done until now. So for nearly 2 years my daughter has been wearing aids that...

Looking for advice on my 22 month old's mixed hearing loss

That was exactly what my thinking. Her doctors lean more towards the oral approach and have not been very supportive of my desire for her to learn sign. I have learned that their advice can be biased so I am never presented with all choices just the choices they favor. They have been pushing...

Looking for advice on my 22 month old's mixed hearing loss

Thanks for your feedback. We do sign to her and have been since she was 6 months. All of the doctors said she didn't need because she would be oral. It was very important to us even though we are hearing, that she learned in case her hearing got worse. I think it's more important that she...

    Looking for advice/feedback

That's exactly why I am on this board. In the beginning I blindly followed most of the advice given by the doctors because it was so overwhelming and I had no idea where to start. I am constantly researching and equipping myself. I ask a lot more questions now!

Her bone test showed 50, 60 and 90 at 500, 1000 and 4000, respectively. I am still new at reading/understanding the audio gram. The audiologist then said it would actually be 30, 40 and 70. You guys are more familiar than I am.

Interesting.... How long have you had BAHAs? Did you wear BTEs at all? How does the sound quality compare? All of the online resources lead you to believe that hearing greater than 50 would disqualify you.

How severe was your loss for it not to work?

I don't know if I'm asking right but to what degree is your loss? Do you experience fluctuations?

    Looking for advice/feedback

Yes, she can hear without her aids. It was the signing that made me question what they were getting in the booth. She damaged her aids and had to be with out them for about 2 weeks. Everyone, including the speech therapist noticed how aware and present she remained without them. She responded to...

Thanks for the info! Was having a hard time figuring out what to search for with Google. I was searched "fluctuating hearing loss" and got mostly info on ear infections.

    Looking for advice/feedback

She will be 2 in May. The concerning thing for me is the fluctuations. It was suggested to have her aids set on different modes and switch them based on her behavior. The test showed that at her best her loss is mild and at her worst it's severe. She can't say mommy this is to loud. What if her...

Not familiar with that technology. We were using behind the ear.

    Looking for advice/feedback

My daughter was originally diagnosed with a mild to moderate bilateral sensorineural loss at 2 weeks old and fitted for aids at 2 months. After several inconsistent booth tests we were sent for another ABR. I stopped using her aids because even the audiologist wasn't confident in the setting...

    My Nerves Are SHOT!

My hearing daughter who just turned 4 behaves the same way. It is getting better slowly but it still grates at my nerves and drives me batty sometimes. Hang in there! Who said parenting was easy...lol Hang in there!

11 month old keeps pulling her aids out!

Thank you for the encouragement! I think I needed to hear that this is normal and to just be persistent. I know in my head but I just want to make sure she is getting the appropriate exposure to sound. Plus we are living outside of the US right now and it will be a pain in the but if she lost...

11 month old keeps pulling her aids out!

That is definitely a concern but I don't think she can open it and her aids have a battery lock (?) that is sometimes hard for me to remove. The reason behind my original post is the fact the she pulled her earmold apart and could have choked on it.

    New Here!

Welcome! I'm fairly new myself. My 11 month old (today!) has a mild to moderate hearing loss. We also failed newborn screening in one ear and passed in the other. It was suggested to follow up but was down played to possibly amniotic fluid because we didn't have any risk factors. Like you I...
