    Mother of a deaf child

Greetings! Welcome to the group. I think you may not be giving yourself enough credit. I'm sure that you know plenty, but you may not have to use it, so it's just there for you when you do! I am Stephanie, mom to Christian, 17 mos old and profoundly deaf. I am curious if Early Intervention...

    I am angry with parents

I have to say.... I used the "nude" earmolds for my son. I wasn't trying to hide anything, but that is just what I chose for him. However, now that he has a cochlear implant, I do not mind. I put the red cover on or the blue. We had pics taken when he still had hearing aids and I made...

    I am angry with parents

I have to say, when asked what I want for my son, that I want him to have the very best! I don't mean the best that money can buy. I mean in life. I want my son (who has a cochlear implant and is profoundly deaf) to do what he wants to do. To be who he wants to be. I, in no way, want to put...

    CI's in Children

As the parent of a 17 mo old with an implant, it's a personal decision. You can't let anyone tell you what to do. Whether to get one or not. It's something that you (and you s/o, if it applies) must decide on. For my husband and I, we decided that a CI is best for our son. So, we went ahead...

    Newbie here!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I want to say that I am using some basic sign with my son. He doesn't have the cochlear implant on all the time (like when he's sleeping or in water *swimming or bath*). He will eventually be mainstreamed, but not yet. He is going to an oral school...

    Newbie here!

Greetings All! My name is Stephanie and my son, Christian, is profoundly deaf. He was born 16 weeks early. He was 1lb 6oz and 11" long. We aren't sure what "caused" his deafness as my husband and myself are both hearing. We think it was the low birthweight, extremely premature and length of...

    I Got Approved!!!

Congrats! My son had to wait only 2 months for the implant. But, that was the longest 2 months of my life. Then he had to wait 6 more weeks for it to be turned on. I know it wasn't that long, but it sure seemed like it! Keep us updated!

    CI's in Children

My son is deaf and my husband and I are both hearing. We choose to get a CI for my son b/c we know that is what is best for him. The earlier the implant is put in, the better. After the age of 4, the brain (as a whole) starts to take over the "useless" part that functions for hearing. So, we...

    I am angry with parents

I have a deaf son And would do ANYTHING for him to succeed! He is my world! He was born 16 weeks early. I don't know what "made" him deaf, but he is. My family, friends and co-workers support what my husband and I are doing. My son, Christian, received a cochlear implant in April, turn on...
