HOH people who recieved an CI, pls look here!

I was born hearing and it lasted until I was 26. Worked out for me because I was able to complete college and start my professional career without the hardship of not being able to hear. But low and behold without prior announcement, my hearing started a progressive loss and it was my secretary...

CI surgery & switch on calender thread!

My Audi gave me 6 programs, 3 on each processor. I am currently at #5 and can say that #3 and #5 are the best so far. Will switch to #6 tomorrow to see what it sounds like. She told me that after I decide which 3 I prefer, she will program both processors the same. Funny thing happened...

CI surgery & switch on calender thread!

I'm all hooked up since last Thursday. I was using hearing aids for the past 26 years. As of March 1, I am "Rebuilt" and have started over with Hickory Dickory Dock and Mary Had a Little Lamb. After a session with my verbal therapist on Friday, my kids just love the fact that the table has...

CI surgery & switch on calender thread!

I certainly hope that Victoria is doing much better as the days go by. I could hardly read your account of what transpired before the surgery (the delay and so hungry) and then her reaction upon waking up. It was heart wrenching and gave me chills up the spine. The only was I can describe it...

A deaf girl aged 7 dies by cochlear implant.

I think there is definitely a case in civil court. It will come down to who the buck stops with. For example, I have 3 kids in school. The school district does not allow a parent to simply state that a child had the required shots. It has to be on a doctor's stationary and signed. Also, isn't...

A deaf girl aged 7 dies by cochlear implant.

When I first went to see the doctor/surgeon, he asked me if I ever had the meningitis vaccine. I said no. He asked me if I wanted to get it right now and I said yes. So the vaccine was given to me even before the CI request was sent to the insurance company. This a sad story and the fault of...

    Just received Surgery Date

I just got an email from the RN at the doctor's office notifying me that my surgery date is 2/7/07 and my pre-op is 2/6/07 at 10 am. I had been waiting for this anxiously and all of a sudden I am kind of nervous. What specifically should I expect at the pre-op? She also asked which brand...

How did you come to pick the CI brand you wanted...

Any one with a CI an avid exerciser? I am thinking that inaddition to the BTE, a body processor would be convenient. I could use the body pack when exercising and not have to worry about sweat damage plus I could wipe off sweat without worrying about knocking the BTE to the floor.

    First appointment

Lucia: I just started the process that you are about to go thru. My first appointment was with the audiologist Monday of last week. She did the normal tones test in each ear, with and without hearing aids. Then she tried words but I could not repeat any, so that part came to an end very...

Freedom vs. Med EL and 1 vs. 2 implants

Cloggy: Thanks for the reply and the warm welcome. I was in your country back in 1999 while on a Russia/Scandanavia cruise. Nice place to visit especially in the summer since I don't like cold and snow. As for the CI, I am 52 and late deafen starting around 26 year of age. I also live...

Freedom vs. Med EL and 1 vs. 2 implants

Hello Have a profound hearing loss and have gone thru phase 1 to determine candidacy for CI. ENT surgeon told me today that I am a great candidate for CI. I was leaning toward toward Med EL because the magnetic piece look like it would not require as much to be taken off of my skull, any future...
